Klaviyo and Mailburger both send marketing email, but they are built for different businesses. Klaviyo is designed around store data: orders, products, reviews and predicted customer value. Mailburger is designed around a list of subscribers and the emails you send them. This comparison uses public pricing checked in October 2026.
The short answer
If you run a Shopify or WooCommerce store and want email, SMS, reviews and predictive analytics working from your order data, Klaviyo is built for that. If you send newsletters, welcome series and other automations, and do not need store integrations, Mailburger covers that for much less: at 10,000 contacts Klaviyo's email plan is $150 a month, while Mailburger Pro is €20 for up to 50,000 contacts.
The plan-by-plan tables are on Mailburger vs Klaviyo.
What each one is
Klaviyo describes itself as a B2C CRM for consumer and ecommerce brands. On top of email it offers SMS, MMS, WhatsApp and RCS, push, reviews, a customer service helpdesk and AI agents, all built on its own customer data platform. Many of its features assume store data, and its Reviews product only works with Shopify and WooCommerce.
Mailburger is an email marketing tool for newsletters, signup forms and automations, running on its own delivery engine. Every plan includes a drag-and-drop editor, templates, signup forms with double opt-in, segments and campaign reports. Paid plans add automations, A/B tests, contact scoring, AI subject lines, an AI segment builder and a REST API. Plans are priced in euros, billed monthly with no contract, and only subscribed contacts count. Mailburger has no built-in store integrations.

How Klaviyo bills. Since 18 February 2025 the email plan is priced by active profiles: any profile that can be emailed, regardless of consent status. Profiles you have never emailed still count, including checkout contacts who never opted in. Suppressed, unsubscribed and deleted profiles do not. Each tier includes sends equal to ten times its profile count. Paid accounts that go over their limit are moved to a profile-compliant plan at the end of each billing cycle, and that cannot be switched off; downgrading automatically is something you have to opt into. The steps between tiers can be sharp: $150 at 10,000 profiles becomes $175 at 10,001. SMS and other mobile messages are prepaid credits from $15 a month, and other add-ons include the Composer AI agent at $20 a month, Marketing Analytics from $100 and Advanced KDP from $500.
How Mailburger bills. Plans count subscribed contacts and contacts pending double opt-in. Unsubscribed and bounced contacts do not count, and test sends and confirmation emails do not use your email allowance. Grow covers 5,000 contacts and 50,000 emails a month for €5, and Pro covers 50,000 contacts and 500,000 emails for €20. Everything is listed on our pricing page.
Free plans. Klaviyo's Free plan covers 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month, with the Klaviyo logo on your emails and email support for the first 60 days. Once you go over, sending stops until the next cycle or until you upgrade. Mailburger's Free plan covers 500 contacts and 2,500 emails a month with one team member.
Deliverability and sending
Klaviyo has a deliverability hub with a score updated daily from the last 30 days, plus reports and bounce details. Dedicated IPs are not self-serve: they are arranged through a customer success manager for managed accounts that meet Klaviyo's sending criteria, with a 30 to 40 day warm-up. Transactional email runs through flows, and each message has to be marked transactional and approved by Klaviyo on a paid account. Klaviyo does not provide an SMTP relay.
Mailburger sends through its own delivery engine. You verify your sending domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, campaigns carry one-click unsubscribe headers, and signup forms support double opt-in, business-email validation and spam protection with a built-in proof-of-work check or Cloudflare Turnstile. Segments on engagement and a contact score that decays over time help you send to people who still read your email. Mailburger does not offer dedicated IPs or app email; keep an API provider for order confirmations and password resets.
Team, security and agencies
Klaviyo has seven built-in roles and unlimited custom roles on every plan, with no user cap stated. SAML single sign-on is available on any paid plan, IdP-initiated only, and can be enforced. EU hosting in Germany is offered to new accounts, while existing accounts stay in the United States.
Mailburger includes 3 team members on Grow and unlimited members on Pro, along with SAML single sign-on and a workspace audit log.
For agencies, Klaviyo has a partner programme with a portal for registering managed accounts, and one login can switch between accounts, but there is no agency console. Mailburger's Agency plan at €49 pools 100,000 contacts and 1,000,000 emails across up to 25 client workspaces, and Agency Plus at €149 pools 500,000 contacts and 5,000,000 emails with unlimited clients. Both are white label, with your own logo, colour, sign-in link and system emails.
Support
Klaviyo's Free plan includes email support for the first 60 days, then self-service. Paid plans get 24/7 email with response targets of 4 to 48 hours and live chat on weekdays. Faster support costs extra: Professional support from $500 a month and Enterprise support from $1,800 a month. No phone support is listed.
Mailburger offers email support on every plan, with priority support on Pro.
Who should choose which
Choose Klaviyo if:
- you run an online store and want flows driven by your orders and products,
- you want predictive analytics, reviews or SMS in the same tool,
- you want SAML single sign-on on a small paid plan and custom roles from day one.
Choose Mailburger if:
- you send newsletters and automations rather than store-driven flows,
- you would rather pay only for people who subscribed,
- your list is growing and you want 10,000 or 50,000 contacts on a €20 plan,
- you run an agency and want white-label client workspaces.
If you sell online but keep things simple, you can send purchase activity to Mailburger as custom events through the REST API and start automations from them. If you depend on product feeds or predicted customer value, Klaviyo will serve you better.
Switching from Klaviyo
Export the lists and segments you actually send to, recreate the profile properties you use as custom fields and import each list into an audience. Tags like {{ first_name|default:'there' }} become {{first_name|there}}. Rebuild your welcome and win-back flows as automations, then verify your sending domain and warm it up.
