Switching
Moving from Brevo, step by step
1. Export your contacts
From your Brevo contacts, export the lists you want to keep as CSV files, including the attributes you use for personalisation.
2. Recreate lists as audiences
Create an audience for each list you send to separately, then import each CSV into its audience. Brevo attributes map to custom fields; create those first under Audience → Custom fields.
3. Translate personalisation
Brevo templates use tags like {{ contact.FIRSTNAME }}. Here, use {{first_name}} and {{custom.your_field}}, with fallbacks such as {{first_name|there}}. See merge tags.
4. Move your workflows
Rebuild workflows as automations: subscribe and tag triggers, waits, if/else on segment rules, and follow-ups for people who did not open. If a workflow sends to a Brevo segment, recreate it first with the segment builder.
5. Connect your systems
If contacts reach Brevo from your website or app, point those integrations at our REST API instead. POST /api/v1/contacts upserts by email, so you can send every signup without checking first. Brevo forms can be replaced with our signup forms, which support double opt-in.
6. Verify and warm up
Verify your sending domain and start with your most engaged contacts. If you also send receipts or password resets through Brevo, keep that part on Brevo or another API provider; Mailburger handles the marketing side. Our guide on warming up a domain explains how to grow volume.
Questions
Asked at the counter
Is Mailburger a cheaper alternative to Brevo?
At 10,000 contacts Brevo needs its 20,000-email tier: €28 a month on Starter or €55 on Standard. Mailburger Pro covers 50,000 contacts and 500,000 emails a month for €20, and Grow covers 5,000 contacts for €5.
Does Brevo have a free plan?
Yes. It stores up to 100,000 contacts but sends 300 emails a day, shows the Brevo sticker, allows 1 user and caps automations at 2,000 contacts. Free accounts unused for 4 months are deleted.
Do unsubscribed contacts count?
Brevo does not bill per contact, but on Starter and Standard your email tier caps how many contacts you can store, for example 1,500 on the 10,000-email tier. On Mailburger only subscribed contacts and contacts pending double opt-in count; unsubscribed and bounced contacts do not.
Can Mailburger replace Brevo's transactional email?
No. Mailburger does not send app email such as receipts or password resets. Keep an API provider for that, which can still be Brevo, and use Mailburger for marketing.
Where does Brevo store data?
In the EU only, in OVH data centres in France and Germany, with backups on Google Cloud in Belgium.
How do I move from Brevo to Mailburger?
Export your lists as CSV, recreate your attributes as custom fields, import each list into an audience and rebuild your workflows as automations. The step-by-step guide is on this page.
