Segments

Dynamic groups of contacts built from rules that update themselves.

1 min read

A segment is a saved set of rules. Contacts join when they match and leave when they stop matching, so the segment is always current.

Building rules

Combine conditions with all or any, and nest groups when you need both:

  • Fields: email, name, status, score, signup date, last open or click, and your custom fields.
  • Tags: has any, has all or has none of the chosen tags.
  • Audiences: subscribed, unsubscribed or pending in an audience.
  • Engagement: opened, clicked or was sent a number of emails, optionally within the last N days.
  • Activity: submitted a form, recorded a custom event, completed an automation.

The preview on the right shows how many contacts match as you edit.

Describe it with AI

If AI is enabled for your workspace, type what you want ("subscribers who clicked in the last 30 days but never bought") and we fill in the rules. Review them before saving; the AI only sees your field names, tags and audiences, never contact data.

Using segments

Send campaigns to a segment, use segment rules as an if/else condition in an automation, or read members through the API.
