Automations

Welcome series, follow-ups and tagging that run on their own.

1 min read

Triggers

An automation starts when a contact subscribes to an audience, gets a tag, submits a form, opens or clicks a campaign email, or when you enroll them yourself (from the editor or the API).

Steps

  • Send email from a template, with its own subject line.
  • Wait a number of minutes, hours or days.
  • If / else on any segment rule, with separate paths for yes and no.
  • Wait for an open or click, with a timeout path for people who do not engage.
  • Add or remove tags, update a field, add to or remove from an audience.
  • Call a webhook to tell another system.
  • End to stop early.

Rules

By default, contacts leave an automation when they unsubscribe, bounce or complain, and can only go through it once. You can allow re-entry with a cool-down.

Versions

Saving changed steps creates a new version. Contacts already inside finish on the version they started, so editing never strands anyone. The Runs page shows where every contact is and what happened at each step.
