Mailburger vs Mailchimp: what you pay for, and what you get

Mailchimp counts unsubscribed contacts and limits Essentials automations to 4 steps. Compare Mailburger and Mailchimp on features and price at 10,000 contacts.

· 6 min read

Mailchimp covers a lot of ground: email, SMS, landing pages and more. Mailburger is narrower and focuses on email marketing. This comparison looks at what each one includes, what it costs at three list sizes and where each one fits, using public pricing checked in October 2026.

The short answer

Mailchimp suits teams that want email, SMS and landing pages in one well-known tool, and businesses that lean on its partner network. Mailburger suits teams that mainly send newsletters and automations and want full automations, A/B tests and single sign-on at a small-business price, without paying for unsubscribed contacts. At 10,000 contacts Mailchimp Essentials is $110 a month; Mailburger Pro is €20 for up to 50,000 contacts.

The plan-by-plan tables are on Mailburger vs Mailchimp.

What each one is

Intuit Mailchimp is an all-in-one email and SMS marketing platform for small and mid-sized businesses and online shops. It has a drag-and-drop editor, signup and popup forms, landing pages, segmentation, automation flows and reporting. Transactional email for apps is a separate paid add-on, Mailchimp Transactional (formerly Mandrill), and only works with the Standard or Premium plan.

Mailburger is an email marketing tool for newsletters, signup forms and automations, running on its own delivery engine. Every plan includes a drag-and-drop editor, templates, signup forms with double opt-in, segments and campaign reports. Paid plans add automations, A/B tests, contact scoring, AI subject lines and a REST API. Plans are priced in euros, billed monthly with no contract, and only subscribed contacts count.

10,000 €20 (Pro, up to 50,000 contacts) $110 $135
50,000 €20 (Pro, up to 50,000 contacts) $385 $450

Monthly list prices. Premium starts at $350 for 10,000 contacts and is $815 at 50,000. Mailchimp's EUR prices are its own exchange-rate estimates, and it asks customers to refer to USD for exact pricing.

How Mailchimp bills. You pay for the most contacts stored at any point in the billing cycle, and subscribed, unsubscribed and non-subscribed contacts all count. Only archived, cleaned and deleted contacts are left out, so keeping the bill down means archiving people yourself. Deleting contacts mid-cycle does not lower that month's bill. Each plan also caps monthly sends at 10, 12 or 15 times your contact limit (Essentials, Standard, Premium). Going over the contact limit or the send cap on a paid plan adds contact blocks to your bill automatically, and the block rates are only visible once you log in. At the time of writing Mailchimp offers 15% off the first 12 months on plans with 10,000 or more contacts; the prices above are before that discount.

How Mailburger bills. Plans count subscribed contacts and contacts pending double opt-in. Unsubscribed and bounced contacts do not count, and test sends and confirmation emails do not use your email allowance. Grow covers 5,000 contacts and 50,000 emails a month for €5, and Pro covers 50,000 contacts and 500,000 emails for €20. Everything on the menu is listed on our pricing page.

Free plans. Mailchimp's Free plan now allows 250 contacts and 500 sends a month, at most 250 a day, with 1 seat and Mailchimp branding. Automations, scheduling and A/B tests are not included. Mailburger's Free plan covers 500 contacts and 2,500 emails a month with the editor, templates, signup forms, segments and reports.

Deliverability and sending

Mailchimp supports domain authentication with SPF and DKIM and uses ISP complaint feedback loops. Standard and Premium add send-time optimisation and anomaly detection, and Inbox Preview gives 25 tokens a month, though Mailchimp's own pages disagree on which plans include it. A dedicated IP is available for Mailchimp Transactional at $29.95 a month.

Mailburger sends through its own delivery engine. You verify your sending domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, campaigns carry one-click unsubscribe headers, and signup forms support double opt-in, business-email validation and spam protection with a built-in proof-of-work check or Cloudflare Turnstile. Segments on engagement and a contact score that decays over time make it easier to send to people who still read your email. Mailburger does not offer dedicated IPs.

Team, security and agencies

Mailchimp includes 1 seat on Free, 3 on Essentials, 5 on Standard and unlimited seats on Premium, with more roles on the higher plans. Single sign-on is Premium only and works through OpenID Connect, with setup guides for Okta and Microsoft Entra. Two-factor authentication is available on every plan.

Mailburger includes 3 team members on Grow and unlimited members on Pro, along with SAML single sign-on and a workspace audit log.

For agencies, Mailchimp offers the Mailchimp & Co partner programme and one login for several client accounts, but each client account is billed separately. Mailburger's Agency plan at €49 pools 100,000 contacts and 1,000,000 emails across up to 25 client workspaces, and Agency Plus at €149 pools 500,000 contacts and 5,000,000 emails with unlimited clients. Both are white label, with your own logo, colour, sign-in link and system emails.

Support

New Free accounts get email support for the first 30 days, then the self-serve Mailchimp Assistant. Essentials and Standard include 24/7 email and chat support. Premium adds a dedicated support team by phone, email and chat.

Mailburger offers email support on every plan, with priority support on Pro.

Who should choose which

Choose Mailchimp if:

  • you want landing pages and SMS in the same tool as your email,
  • you rely on multivariate tests or predictive segments,
  • you want a large partner network or phone support.

Choose Mailburger if:

  • you want automations with branches, splits and goals without paying for Standard,
  • you would rather not pay for unsubscribed contacts,
  • you need SAML single sign-on without a $350 plan,
  • you manage several clients and want them under one agency plan.

Switching from Mailchimp

Export your audience as a CSV, import your subscribed contacts into an audience and recreate your custom fields. Mailchimp's *|FNAME|* becomes {{first_name}}, with fallbacks such as {{first_name|there}}. If you use Mailchimp Transactional, plan for a separate API provider, because it needs a Standard or Premium plan. The step-by-step guide is on Mailburger vs Mailchimp.
